If you are interested in some of the stranger stories you might find on and off the religion page, this is the book for you. The religions covered here are not all strangers to us - including Fundamentalist Mormons and the Amish - but her coverage may show some things of which the reader is not aware. Are the Amish really peaceful, tight communities of simple hard-working farmers? And what is the deal with Rumspringa, anyway? Are the FLDS really polygamists? What is the SeaOrg, and why does Scientology make them sign a billion year contract? Then there are some lesser known religions covered, such as Voodoo, Hudou, and Santeria. She wraps it up with a look at New Age Spirituality. Well written and readable; few editing errors. In general, highly recommended. ( )

Overall I found this an enjoyable and informative read. The author clearly has a bias against religion in general, though, which shows through at various times. Granted, though, many of the religions she covers in this book are pretty winged out and it can be hard to review them in an unbiased manner. ( )
